Trip Overview

Vietnam is a the most endemic rich-country in mainland South-East Asia.

Vietnam has 13 currently-recognized endemics and many furture endemic as well! The list of regional endemic and near endemic also very impressive with 40 near-endemics.

Vietnam is a most endemic-rich country for Primates endemic. Vietnam has 25 primate species, of which 11 are critically endangered and five are endemic to Vietnam; several more are found only in Indochina. It is undoubtedly one of the most important countries in the world for primate conservation.

Vietnam is a fast-developing country with very good infrastructure, extremely friendly people and a very safe country to travelling. Vietnam is varied culture, a wide diversity of people, great scenery and making it worthwhile to visit for both birders and no-birders alike. Vietnam is a beauty country to combine to birding! With over 3000km of coastline, with variety of beautiful beaches from centre to south Vietnam. The best of its culture include history sites, longest and beauty caves. And an amazing Mekong Delta with floating market, river cruise, cuisine.

Accommodation: Very comfortable twin-bed and single room. The accommodation mostly good to very good, and some are simple base on each birding spots. However, all accommodations have wi-fi, hot water and electricity, private bathrooms, and air-condition.

Transportation is very important on our tour. The car mostly is new, and driver is an experience.

Tour daily:Mostly time birding early start around 5 or 5:30 am for breakfast or transfer to other birding sites. There are some long drives on this tour, with several of 4 hours, and one drive of 8 hours planned. Walking is easy to medium, sitting in bird-blinds and normal easy walking about 4km on easy track and road.

The highest altitude on the tour is around 2000m.

The best time for birding in Vietnam on November to April when is present of migrants, ending rain-season and the resident are most active.

Photography is very good change on the tour with more bird-blinds where many species visiting, include endemic species and shy birds.

Vietnam’s cuisine is perfect! There are 3 different tastes of : Southern is richest with a bit sweet and chili, Centre is awesome cuisine in Vietnam and North is very different with salty. And you will be fall-in love with ‘Banh Mi’ and ‘Pho”!

Climate:

The South There are two seasons in South: Rain season and dry season. It is hot at Cattien and temperatures could be reach to 35 °C but in highland at Dilinh and Dalat are cooler. The temperratures around 12-27°C.

The Central Highlands include: DaLat plateau, Mang Den Plateau, Ngoc linh are cold with highest altitude at 2000m. And misty also at afternoon and early morning. Owing to the higher altitude, temperatures are lower than other regions at comparable latitudes. Winters are dry while summers are characterized by high rainfall. The temperature around 12 -27°C.

Central includes the Bach Ma, Sa Mu Pass, Phong Nha-Ke Bang. The climate here is different, winters are characterized by cold, cloudy weather with frequent drizzle, being under the influence of the northeast monsoon. Summers are characterized by hot, dry weather owing to westerly winds. The region averages between 1,500 and 1,700 hours of sunshine per year.

The North include Cuc Phuong, Van Long, Ba Be a bit similar with central but Tam Dao is very different, winters are characterized by cold, cloudy weather with frequent drizzle, the weather change by hour. Temperature around 10 to 25°C.

The Tonkin the climate is strongly influenced by the northeast monsoon. Winters are cold, cloudy (little sunshine) that is characterized by drizzle. The cold comes earlier than other provinces. Summers are hot and rainy that coincide with the rainy season. However, unlike the northwest, dry conditions are rare due to a low frequency of westerly winds. The rainy season usually lasts from May–September although its duration can vary from 4 to 10 months. In the Hoang Lien Son mountains, winters are cold where snowfall and hoarfrost can occasionally occur. These mountains have the highest rainfall in the country. The average annual amount of sunshine hours is 1,400 to 1,700.

Tonkin region includes the East and West Tonkin include: Fansipan mountain is highest mountain at over 3000m, the weather is coldest drop to minus 1 in winter and normally around 1-15°C. And lower back to town, the weather getting better around 5 to 20°C.
